For many reasons, people feel that there is a need to improve their smile. Some to improve career opportunities, some for self confidence, and others to develop and enhance their appearance.

For many individuals, an improved smile can literally transform their lives. An attractive smile plays an important role in a person?s self image. You can interact with your friends better and deal with colleagues and clients confidently when you know you have a beautiful smile.

Sad to say, but surveys show that about 50 percent of Americans are unhappy with the appearance of their teeth, which affects their smile.

Good oral hygiene is vital to achieve a nice smile without having to worry about the condition of your teeth, or even bad breath.

How to effectively brush your teeth:

? Move your toothbrush in a circular gentle scrubbing motion. The outer surfaces of both lower and upper teeth should be thoroughly brushed, keeping the brush bristles slanting toward the ?gum line?.

? Scrub all chewing surfaces. The bristles? tips should clean the surface by using just a small amount of pressure.

? Tilt your brush vertically then use gentle ?up and down? strokes when cleaning your ?front teeth?.

? Remember to brush your tongue too.

? Always change your toothbrush when bristles become matted or splayed.

? Keep your toothbrush in an open and dry storage area between brushings.

Flossing

? Use about 18 inches of dental floss, wind it around your middle finger and hold the remaining floss with fingers of the other hand: then start flossing.

? While tightly holding the floss, begin with a very gentle rocking motion, being careful not to hit and injure your gums.

? When your floss reaches the gum line, arch it to form a ?C- shape? next to one tooth then slide it in between the gum and the tooth work with a swaying motion, carefully scraping your tooth.

? Do the same for all of your teeth. Replace the floss as needed.

When shopping for dental care products, always look for the ADA ?American Dental Association? seal of recognition to determine the product?s effectiveness.

Always purchase toothpaste that is rich in fluoride to prevent cavity formation. Read labels carefully. Use a mouthwash to prevent bad breath, for confidence any time you start a conversation.

Remember to take good care of your teeth and see your dentist at least twice a year to maintain a sparkling smile at all times.

A pleasing appearance does not depend entirely on physical beauty but is also influenced by the gait at which he walks and the way he carries himself. A person who may look beautiful can become ugly the moment he open s his mouth.

Taking stock of the way you communicate with others will help you improve your appearance. A glib talker will be more attractive than a person who stands timidly quiet, not because of a lack of wisdom but because he has nothing else to say.

If you are knowledgeable on any topic, then you can walk ?the talk? and make yourself the most beautiful or handsome person in the room. A good talker captivates his audience without being overbearing: but be careful to not to overdo it by monopolizing the conversation.

Becoming a good talker or speaker works hand in hand with possessing proper manners. You may be good in talking but if you do not possess the proper manners, then your general appearance suffers or id ruined. Avoid giving curt answers like ?yes? or ?no? because it will make you appear blunt.

What you lack in the ?looks? department can be compensated for by using a very good talking stance to improve your appearance. Engaging your associates in intelligent and polite conversation will always improve your appearance and reputation ? which is good.

A proper talking stance includes the quality of voice you use when conversing with others. Avoid being too loud or condescending as this will, in many cases, turn other people off and will taint your general appearance to them. A voice that is shrill or ?falsetto-like? will give other people a bad impression of you. Do not use an angry voice when talking with others even if you are accustomed to using this type of voice. There is always an opportunity to change bad habits!

While talking, show your interest not only in the topic or issues of the day, but also in the people around you. Being kind to those in the conversation circle will earn you higher points, appearance wise.

You may inject humor in your conversation but tread carefully because there is a thin line between humor and bad taste. Never make fun of others because it is a black mark on your appearance. Always make your conversations pleasant and decent.

While you may not be the most handsome or beautiful face in a room, make sure you exude a good appearance by being smart, respectful, decent, and a good conversationalist.

Everyone knows that exercise can improve a person?s health. Do people realize that it can also help an individual?s appearance?

When people see an advertisement, the viewer is made to believe that if the individual in the ad can do it, anyone can achieve the same results in a period of time. Unfortunately, this is not always true.

Exercise builds up a person?s endurance and resistance against disease. This will keep the individual healthy, strong, and immune to disease.

A smile can change a bad day into a good one. Exercise can make this happen since males and females have endorphins which are hormones produced by the body and are usually activated by a good workout in the gym.

Beauty is not only skin deep: it also requires improving the beauty from within. This can be done by reading books and other activities to keep the mind sharp.

People should maintain a proper diet by eating fruits, vegetables, meat and fish: eating all of these will provide the proper amounts of carbohydrates, proteins and fats needed by the body.

Appearance can also be improved by getting the proper amount of rest. Doctors say that 8 hours of sleep is ideal but some people have proven that 5 to 6 hours can sufficient.

Many gyms are not only equipped with exercise equipment. These facilities may also have spas, saunas and massage parlors that when combined with exercise can release the tension in the body making the person feel rested.

Exercise is just one of the many things that can help improve the appearance of a person. Those who have vices such as smoking or drinking should stop since they impede the progress that one is trying so hard to achieve by working out in a gym.
